v16.20
Release Date: September 6, 2026
Overview
Heaper 16.20 makes long-form work easier to present and navigate, brings structured information and live collaboration further into everyday workflows, and adds a direct, permission-aware way to connect agents.
New Features
- Document Outline and Minimap: Navigate long documents from a responsive scrollbar that shows the visible viewport and document structure, highlights the current heading, and expands into a clickable heading outline.
- Structured and Multi-Value Properties: Store repeated emails, phone numbers, addresses, dates, relations, social profiles, messaging details, and custom lists in one property. Properties also gain richer text values, validation, and better search and filter indexing.
- Live Workspace Updates: Connected clients now receive committed workspace changes almost immediately. Heap settings show connection health, recent activity, delivery state, and a manual retry when needed.
- Hosted Agent Connections: Connect compatible assistants directly to Heaper through authenticated MCP access. Server settings provide approval, heap and scope selection, naming, access updates, reconnect support, and disconnection controls.
- Collaborative Teleprompter: Present any document in a focused, read-only teleprompter with adjustable reading pace, fullscreen, mirroring, centered text, a movable camera guide, and remote controls from another connected device.
Improvements
- Document Editing: Collapse heading sections, inspect hidden and unusual characters, insert soft line breaks with Shift+Enter, and use smoother block handles with clearer list and nested-item behavior.
- Wide Tables: Tables can use the full editor surface and scroll horizontally while prose stays at a comfortable reading width.
- Property Search: Search, Tasks, Calendar, filters, and app queries can use indexed property values more consistently, including multiple values and dates without a year.
- Workspace Navigation: Refined workspace visuals, denser sidebar rows, delayed sidebar peeks, and improved selection behavior reduce accidental interruptions while browsing.
- App Updates: Desktop Settings now shows clearer version, availability, download progress, error, and restart states when checking for updates.
- File Processing: Optional processing failures now produce useful warnings without discarding otherwise successful imports.
Mobile
- Purchase and Restore Flow: iOS and Android purchases gotten smoother with better error display
- Background Photo Import: Android and iOS can continue configured photo-library imports through native background work, and show the latest run time and error for each heap.
- Mobile Keyboard Layout: Create Sheet and the editor respond more reliably to software keyboards, split-screen layouts, resume events, safe areas, and Android WebView selection changes (selection having no handles).
- Mobile Media: Image details and authenticated video playback retain valid local or authorized sources more reliably, including after navigation and background activity.
Self-Hosted / Server
- Agent Access Management: Self-hosted servers can approve, limit, rename, reconnect, and revoke agent connections while applying the same heap permissions and audit boundaries as other clients.on.
- Safer Backups: Backup scheduling and retention now preserve a minimum recovery set and handle thinning more defensively across server and native paths.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed quick previews and file-detail images that could remain blank until the user dragged or otherwise interacted with the view.
- Fixed local thumbnail paths and thumbnail revision handling so cached media updates without leaking device-specific paths into shared state. (previews disappearing after syncing with another device)
- Fixed real-time sync reconnect loops, redundant pulls, duplicate updates, misleading zero-work completion messages, and stale connection indicators.
- Fixed editor keyboard handlers disappearing after page navigation.
- Fixed wide-table controls and menus appearing over sidebars or outside the visible editor.
- Fixed background photo imports that stopped running after failures or application lifecycle changes.
- Fixed native Electron service handoffs that could leave the app disconnected during startup or restart.
- Fixed pre-seeded collaborative editor content occasionally failing to appear on first open.
